Product Description

Conventional wisdom says that in the music business, once you achieve a certain threshold of success, caution should be your guide. You've come this far, you're told by everyone around you. Don't surprise your audience too much. But trepidation will not be part of Dierks Bentley's legacy. At every turn in his career, he's done his own thing, whether that meant touring with jam bands, playing rock venues or recording with bluegrass all-stars on platinum country albums. Now Dierks steps forward with his most artistically daring project yet - the all-acoustic Up On The Ridge - a powerful, beautiful album steeped in the bluegrass and roots music that moved Dierks Bentley to be a country musician in the first place.

"I fell in love with this kind of music the first time I walked into the Station Inn with a fake I.D. at 19 years old...these guys, who were my age, were playing their instruments so hard it knocked your head back," explains Bentley. "Without the whole bluegrass community taking me in, I would have had no place to start from. It is my foundation."

Dozens of talents have contributed in some way to this project. Besides the five co-written by Dierks himself, the songs come from such varied sources as Bob Dylan, Buddy and Julie Miller, U2 and Kris Kristofferson. Kristofferson participated on the project as a guest vocalist as well, along with a slate of today's best traditional country singers, including: Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Sonya Isaacs and Chris Stapleton of the Steeldrivers. Players on the project include: Chris Thile and the Punch Brothers, the Del McCoury Band, the legendary Sam Bush, dobro player Rob Ickes, guitarist Bryan Sutton, fiddler Stuart Duncan, and mandolinist Ronnie McCoury.

"This record's not a departure for me at all," says Dierks. "It's really just going back and reclaiming something I feel like I do have some ownership of, which is the acoustic music scene in Nashville."

I have been a fan the accustic bluegrass for a while, and it was nice to hear what Dierks Bently brought to the genre. My father and I would travel all around the state when I was younger and he would always have the radio set to a station playing bluegrass. Listening to this album really brought back those memories, especially "Rovin' Gambler". As I listened, I could have sworn I was once more in that front car seat with the window down, sitting next to my dad.

This is a fun album! Dierks Bentley has always been an artist I have enjoyed listening to, though for the most part, I have enjoyed his up-beat, fun, less serious songs more than anything else. With this album, you get to hear another side of Dierks, and it's great! This acoustic, bluegrass album has a lot of great songs on it, and it does not fail to disappoint. My personal favorite is "Bad Angel" which also includes Miranda Lambert. The song is great, and the combination of Dierks' voice along with Miranda's is a wonderful combination that really makes this song come alive. Overall, a great album that I would highly recommend!

Dereks Bentley's new CD Up on a ridge is an amazing step for this up an coming star. When I heard the first song from this CD I loved the fact that it was not what I expected. The chorus makes you hear his tone going up when in fact it goes lower. I Love his voice! Good choice on Bluegrass.

I've been following Dierks Bentley since his early days and he never disappoints. His unique voice brings variety to country music. Awesome album. Best tracks: Draw Me a Map for its sweet sadness, and Bad Angel (great with Miranda Lambert).

Dierks Bentley is phenomenal! I love country music and have for a long time but Dierks Bentley has truly brought something unique with every album, including this one. His work is so pleasant to listen to and I would recommend this album to anyone, country music fan or not!

I was so excited to get a copy of this album because I loved his previous albums. This one is all acoustic and it's amazing. Special guest artists make it all the better. Make sure to listen to Draw Me a Map, Bad Angel, and Bottle to the Bottom. There are my top 3 picks on this album.
